Description
The Åland Islands are an autonomous, demilitarized archipelago in the Baltic Sea, situated between Sweden and Finland and forming a self-governing region of Finland. Its capital, Mariehamn, is the only town in the islands and serves as the seat of the regional government and parliament. Although part of Finland, the islands hold a distinct identity as a Swedish-speaking territory with their own postage stamps and vehicle registration.
