South Sudan is a landlocked country in East-Central Africa, bordering Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Central African Republic; it became the world's newest country upon gaining independence from Sudan in 2011. Its capital is Juba, situated on the White Nile and the country's largest city.
