GQ
Equatorial Guinea
Description
Equatorial Guinea is a small Central African country on the Gulf of Guinea, comprising a mainland region, Río Muni, bordered by Cameroon and Gabon, along with the island of Bioko and several smaller islands. Its capital is Ciudad de la Paz, a purpose-built city on the mainland that replaced Malabo, the historic capital on Bioko Island, as capital in early 2026. Equatorial Guinea is one of Africa's leading oil producers. The ISO 3166-1 codes for Equatorial Guinea (alpha-2 GQ, alpha-3 GNQ, numeric 226) are used across internet domains, currency and banking systems, and international shipping and travel documents.
